Slides and Scripts from SharePoint Saturday Virginia Beach Posted

Posted by Adam Preston on 01/17/2012

Yet again we had an amazing event down at Virginia Beach. This SharePoint Saturday has truly become the Who’s-Who of SharePoint gathering. We had speakers from all over the world….MVPs, authors, and more! What was also exciting is that there were several first time speakers – exciting to see the community continue to grow at its rapid pace.

My topic this time around was on PowerShell, of course, showcasing a few of the scripts that we have used to assist us along the way in SharePoint 2007 and SharePoint 2010. Head over to the SPSVB site and take a look!

Didn’t attend? Shame on you! Check us out this Nov/Dec for SharePoint Saturday Richmond and again next January for SharePoint Saturday Virginia Beach!

I had a client that created several subsites without selecting to use the same navigation as its parent. The decision was later made to add this back in order to provide some consistency throughout the environment. To easily resolve this, open up the SharePoint 2010 Management Shell and perform the following:

SharePoint Information Architecture Diagram Using PowerShell and Visio

Posted by Adam Preston on 11/21/2011

Having a well-planned Information Architecture is critical for the success of a SharePoint implementation. Sometimes, as we all know, our environments get away from us and site owners start running frantic – sites are created without our knowledge or placed where they shouldn’t. You have had enough and it’s time for reorganization (and perhaps a new security model) – but how do you know what you have now in order to thoroughly plan things out? Technology to the rescue! Let’s use the “power” of PowerShell and Visio to do this for us.

So, you implemented SharePoint Server 2010 and have kicked the tires for a little bit. You are starting to poke around at the new features and capabilities to help your users be more efficient. Microsoft SharePoint Conference 2011 Review

Posted by Adam Preston on 10/08/2011

We are fresh off the conclusion of the Microsoft SharePoint Conference 2011 in Anaheim, CA and it was fantastic! The conference provided us with several insights, but most noteworthy that SharePoint is growing, and growing rapidly! You could see this everywhere, in the amount of attendee turn out (~7,500), the number of sponsors and sessions, the worldwide diversity of attendees, and the amount of social gatherings every night. We knew going into it that because it was a mid-production cycle conference that no major news would probably be announced and that was immediately evident in the keynote remarks regarding how this year’s theme was productivity. This was featured in many of the session topics, whether it was business automation using composite solutions, FAST, or being more efficient with the cloud.
