When needing to crawl and index PDF files stored on your SharePoint site, I highly recommend the PDF IFilter by Foxit. The latest version has been updated for SharePoint 2010 per the screenshot from the installer:

Notice the reference to SharePoint 2010 by version 14.0 in the change log

      No, the free PDF IFilter solution is the one produced by Adobe. However, the performance difference between Adobe and Foxit is pretty substanstial. Foxit beats Adobe by a long shot…..but a free pricetag is always nice. 🙂
